Issues that matter
Why I am running for re-election to the Vallejo City Unified School District:
I desire to provide the district almost 40 years of my educational expertise as it relates to providing a channel for the district to become more relevant. I am passionate about ensuring that each child in the city of Vallejo gets the best education possible. I desire to continue to bring direction, support, and accountability to the district as a whole though the guidance of our strategic plan. I am also deeply concerned about the revival of the school district which includes fiscal solvency, student achievement, and coherent governance. I am confident in my ability to continue to lead these efforts in a second term as a school board member. As a parent and grandparent of past and future VCUSD graduates, I am invested and have confidence in the success of the district. If re-elected, I will continue to support the strong leadership of our district with the goal of improving the overall performance of all stakeholders involved in the education of our children in Vallejo.
What makes me the best candidate for re-election to the Vallejo City Unified School Board:
I believe in the power of building relationships and developing partnerships between schools and their students, families and communities. As a school leader, I have continuously engaged and empowered all school stakeholders, including students, teachers, support staff, parents, and community at large. I also bring passion, vision, and am expertly familiar with all aspects of running the district. I have demonstrated the ability to facilitate a collaborative process, with all parties involved, to come to an amicable solution on all issues. I have proven to be an effective leader through challenging times by keep students at the center of decision making while leading efforts to become a coherent governance team in collaboration with district leadership.
What I hope to accomplish while serving a second term as a Vallejo City School Board Member:
I have demonstrated consistent leadership through modeling professionalism and vision that yields a level of overall success that the district can be proud of. I also desire to cultivate a sense of community-based education for the betterment of all students in Vallejo. I hope to address the low achievement of students and their overall educational experiences which have been impacted, to some extent, by inconsistent quality of instruction, low staff morale, and an overall nature of mistrust within the district. Specifically, I plan to leverage my leadership on the board to continue to impact the following issues in the school district through:
● Providing relevant and ongoing professional development for teachers, staff, and administrators
● Building fiscal solvency and accountability for the sustainment of programs, services, and human resources
● Promoting culturally relevant instruction and positive student-teacher relationships
● Ensuring transparency and fluid communication between the schools and the communities they serve
